SUMMARY:Flourishing Congregational Workshop - November 10th
DESCRIPTION:Event Title: Flourishing KINGSTON\nDate: Friday\, November 10th\nTime: 9am to 4pm (in person)\nWhere:\nCrossroads United Church\n690 Sir John A. MacDonald Blvd\nKingston ON\, K7M 1A2\nTel: 613.542.9305 \nSummary: Spend a day with the Moderator\, engaging in reflection and energizing activities towards dream-oriented actions for our churches and communities. \nAll around the world – from universities to the United Nations\, from corporations to community organizations – people are talking about flourishing. Rooted in belonging\, flourishing means living with purpose and joy\, and bringing bold collaborative solutions to our world’s challenges. \nThe Moderator\, the Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne\, wants to bring that conversation to The United Church of Canada. She invites us to connect to one another in hope\, with a deep conviction by a belief that\, despite all the challenges of church life in this day and age\, we can move from despair to transformation – from languishing to flourishing. \nIs your church flourishing? \n(Perhaps that’s the wrong question.) \nIs your church contributing to the flourishing of your community? \nHow might we truly be a flourishing church in the world? How might we live in deep spirituality\, bold discipleship and daring justice\, linked from coast to coast to coast in ministry that transforms us and the world around us? \nThese workshops are free. Register on CHURCHx – Flourishing Kingston

This is a one day in person conference that is being held at Kingsview United Church\, Oshawa from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. \nThe keynote speaker will be Rev. The conference will conclude with a regional focus lead by Rev. Éric Hébert-Daly. \nThe upcoming conference\, through the lens of anti-racism\, interfaith and intercultural realities will recall for us the principles for justice work; countering antisemitism; engaging church in study of discipleship; theologies and histories of mission practices and impacts in The United Church. \nWe will also be singing our Theology\, and looking at real word consequences.  Our history of involvement in colonization will be mentioned as well as our work on right relations and reconciliation. \nWhile reflecting on the Theologies within The United Church of Canada\, we will be asking –\nwho is Jesus Christ for a church that values ecumenical and interfaith work\, and has made commitments about becoming an intercultural and anti-racist church?\nYou will be well informed about work with faculty at United Church theological schools who are engaged in anti-racism and decolonization theological education.  In addition\, the different approaches around interfaith work in a pluralistic Canadian society will be shared\, along with Canadian human rights issues. \nExecutive Minister Rev. Éric Hébert-Daly will focus our attention on the implications of our chosen priorities in working together as the Body of Christ in East Central Ontario Region. \nPlease remember to bring your own lunch as the caterer has already received the numbers\, thank you! \nAny questions about the conference please contact Rev. Dr. Aruna Alexander (drarunaalexander@cogeco.ca).
