SUMMARY:ECORC Media Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Whether it’s a sudden story that grabs the community’s attention or a unique initiative you’d like to promote\, understanding how the news media work will help your church convey its message effectively. This United Church-specific workshop will give you practical skills you can use to highlight your church’s faithful response in a society that often assumes conservative and evangelical voices speak for all Christians. You’ll learn about the pressures today’s news organizations face\, how to prepare for an interview and how to tell your good-news stories. Please note that this workshop will mainly focus on interactions with traditional news media\, rather than on the use of social media. Bring your questions! \nPlease join us as we are led through this workshop with LLWL member\, Nancy Payne\, on Friday\, November 15th at Trinity-St. Andrew’s United Church in Brighton from 1:30-4:30. Please note that this is an in-person workshop and will not be available on Zoom\, however\, the event will be recorded but not shared publicly and will only be available for a specified amount of time. For those who are interested and unable to attend\, please check “regrets” on the registration form and a recording of the workshop will be sent to you. \nThis workshop is open to all and will be of particular interest to those who have media relations/communications responsibilities or a desire to strengthen these skills. \nDeadline to register\, November 13th.

SUMMARY:The Hilliker Preaching Lectureship
DESCRIPTION:The Hilliker Preaching Lectureship\, a weekend-long learning event\, is co-hosted by Sydenham Street United Church and Chalmers United Church (please note the venues on the poster for each event) \nIn the midst of a loneliness epidemic\, how can we find greater personal purpose? How can we cultivate meaningful connections and communities? Join us for a FREE Saturday morning workshop and Sunday morning worship service exploring these questions and more with Rev. Dr. John Pentland. \nJohn is an author\, speaker and minister who deeply values curiosity and connection. He has been in ministry at Hillhurst United Church (Calgary) for over 20 years. He is known for connecting faith and culture\, as well as his commitment to “good public theology.” He completed a doctor of ministry at Chicago Theological Seminary in 2004. His dissertation\, entitled “Speaking Faith in Public Space\,” tackled the question of how to talk about faith outside of church. \nHe writes as a columnist with the Calgary Herald\, regularly contributes letters and opinion essays to The Globe and Mail\, and in 2015 published a book about the journey of his thriving community of faith. \nCheck out these articles about John’s career and congregation: John Pentland throws his hat in the ring for United Church moderator | Broadview Magazine and This Calgary church nearly closed. SUMMARY:No More Silent Battles
DESCRIPTION:Mark Street United Church is very excited to launch the viewing of this documentary and discussion about transforming home care for individuals suffering with dementia. It will take place on Monday\, April 20th at 7 p.m. \n“NO MORE SILENT BATTLES” is directed by local and well-renowned\, Dr. Jenny Ingram\, Internal and Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Ingram has worked with seniors for decades and has witnessed declining memory and different forms of dementia in many of her patients. Rather than accept the status quo\, Dr. Ingram directed this film and included local people to tell their stories about wanting to keep their loved one at home and how difficult that is without adequate support and resources. \nCome and join the discussion and we’ll problem solve and find some authentic and realistic solutions. Dr. Ingram will be present and will answer your pressing questions and concerns following the viewing.

SUMMARY:Music Workshop with Dr. Mark W. Ruhnke
DESCRIPTION:‘Singing 4 the Love of It’ workshop with Dr. Mark W. Ruhnke! \nJoin us at Faith United Church in Courtice\, ON on Saturday May 2nd\, 2026 from 1pm – 3pm to for this incredible opportunity to work with Dr. Mark.\nIf you’d love to sing\, but have been told “you can’t sing” or you “just mouth the words\,” this workshop is for you. Dr. Mark created the ‘Sing 4 the Love of It’ program for non-singers who wanted to sing\, but didn’t feel comfortable or safe doing so. He created a safe environment for people to come together and sing without fear of judgement or any performance expectations. Over time it led to a noticeable increase in the confidence of his congregation’s singing during Sunday worship. If you are interested in becoming more comfortable with your singing\, or to encourage members of your congregation to sing\, come join us for a workshop with Dr. Mark Rhunke. \nTo guarantee a spot\, please e-transfer $15 to ‘donations@faithunited.ca’ with ‘Music Workshop’ in the memo area.

SUMMARY:Pilgrimage to El Salvador - March Break\, 2027
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in joining a partnership that has blessed people across North America since the 1980s? Is the Spirit urging you to discover Christ’s work in communities that look dramatically different from your own? \nDuring March break 2027\, 20-30 people and leaders from the East Central Ontario Regional Council together with the Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council and the Pacific Mountain Regional Council will travel to San Salvador to be guests of our global partners at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Through this week together you will learn about Salvadoran history\, perhaps help build a school\, community centre or church in rural El Salvador\, learn about peace making initiatives in a country with a violent history. In short\, your life will change. \nAdults who have visited El Salvador before will also have an opportunity to visit United Church global partner ADES\, the Santa Marta community advocacy and agriculture support group. \nAre you ready for this? \nThen please consider joining us (actual dates to be confirmed) but before you complete this application\, please consider some important\, practical facts: \n\nEl Salvador has a tropical climate\, with especially high levels of pollution in the urban areas\nMuch of the terrain is volcanic and very steep. We will walk a fair bit on this trip.\nWe sleep in dorm rooms with 8 to 10 people.\n\nWhile our hosts are well connected and make our safety and health their priority\, it is important to understand the political situation in El Salvador: \n\nEl Salvador remains under a state of “Special Emergency”\, whereby some legal rights remain suspended.\nThis has resulted in mass incarceration\, which many believe has reduced the activities of the gangs and significantly reduced the murder rate.\nHowever\, there are reports of false arrests and difficulty extracting young men from prison once arrested\, including citizens of other South and Central American countries.\n\nIf you have any questions\, please ElSalvadorMarch2027@gmail.com \nPlease follow us on facebook www.facebook.com/2027IBE/ and instagram: www.instagram.com/elsal2027\nPlease fill out the application below if you are interested in joining us! \n\n \n \n 2026 ECORC/ IBE Partnership Program\n El Salvador Pilgrimage \n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged. Please begin registration hereName*\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n PronounsWhich pronoun(s) do you prefer?
