DESCRIPTION:The Outreach Committee invites you to a free 3-hour interactive presentation titled “Bridges Out of Poverty” at Mark Street United Church on Thursday\, July 6th from 1 to 4 p.m. Our dynamic and skilled speaker is Suzie Johnson-Smith\, a 30-year Social Services employee of the City of Peterborough. \nTo decide whether you would learn much by attending\, we offer you this quiz. The full answers will be shared during the workshop. \n1. What are the 11 resources one needs to feel secure and stable in life?\n2. Can you name 10 causes of poverty and the community conditions around them?\n3. Are you able to name 10 ways in which the poor are exploited?\n4. Being wealthy is hard! What do the wealthy strive for to feel successful? Do millionaires ever actually achieve this?\n5. What is the driving force for decision-making in the middle class?\n6. Why is it that ninety percent of “old wealth” families have lost their wealth by the third generation? \nBridges out of Poverty is a framework for understanding the three classes in Canada: the poor\, the middle class\, and the wealthy and the hidden rules of each.\nWhy are the hidden rules so different?\nCome and find out why! \nThere is no admission fee to this presentation but if you wish to make a freewill donation to the Outreach Committee\, we will say thank you. SUMMARY:2023 ECORC's Spring Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, \nIt is with great pleasure that I extend this invitation to you for an upcoming in-person hybrid meeting centered around the theme of Unity\, Diversity\, and Love – Unleashing the Power of Spiritual Gifts. \nWe believe that there is a great power that lies within the diversity of our spiritual gifts\, and that when we come together in unity\, we can unleash that power and achieve great things. On behalf of the East Central Ontario Regional Council\, we invite you to join us as we explore how we can use our spiritual gifts to spread love\, promote unity\, and celebrate diversity. \nWe will gather at Trinity United Church in Cobourg on Friday\, May 5th and Saturday\, May 6th. Doors will open for registration at 9am on both Friday and Saturday. \nTrinity United Church is located at 284 Division St. Cobourg\, ON K9A 3R1. From Highway 401\, exit at County Rd. 45/Division St. (exit #474) and proceed south on Division St. into the center of the town. The church is located at 284 Division St. on the southeast corner of Division St. and Chapel St. There is a large municipal parking immediately to the south of the church. There is wheelchair access from the Division St. parking lot. \nFriday’s gathering will begin at 10am and conclude at approximately 6pm and will include pre-gathering and afternoon bio-break tea\, coffee\, juice and snacks and will also include a catered luncheon. For those joining us in person on Friday\, we would like to send the information for our luncheon to the caterer on April 26th. \nSaturday’s gathering will begin at 10am and conclude at approximately 12pm and will include pre-gathering tea\, coffee\, juice and snacks. \nCelebration of Ministry Service: Following the conclusion of our Spring Annual Meeting\, you are invited to join us on Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm as we gather in community to ordain new Ordinands with a reception to follow. These are the opportunities for engagement\, discussion and learning. \n1 > Tuesday\, March 21st from 7-9pm – Setting up the Regional Council for Success (Strategic Planning and Nominations) How do we plan for the future? How do we ensure we have all that we need to strengthen and build our communities of faith? This is precisely what this information session will explore! Join us as we discuss the path forward together – answering God’s call to carry out the ministry in this region through our nominations process\, as well as exploring what our strategic planning process will look like in 2023. Share your thoughts and contribute to this important work! \n2 > Tuesday\, April 18th from 7-9pm – Granting: Join our Ministry through Property Team as they lead you in a discussion as to what grants are available to you and how to apply for them. \n3 > Monday\, April 24th from 7:30-9pm – Remit on the structure of the Indigenous Church  ECORC’s Indigenous Justice & Respectful Relationships Forum is inviting you to join us for an information session to discuss how the United Church takes two important steps toward right relations. In its General Council 44\, meeting virtually\, The United Church of Canada has approved two proposals that advance the journey toward an autonomous Indigenous Church within The United Church of Canada. You can read the first proposal (referred to as NICO1) by clicking HERE and viewing or downloading the PDF document. The second proposal (GS10) can be viewed/downloaded by clicking HERE. Each community of faith will need to vote on this remit\, so this is a great chance to learn more about it and we look forward to gathering with you. \nThese info sessions are open to all. They are an opportunity to engage with the presenters\, to become more knowledgeable of the workings of the Regional Council and perhaps most importantly\, your opportunity to influence the work and direction of the leadership teams.
